Iva Kereselidze - Interventional Cardiologist

The Alexander Aladashvili Clinic has been operating its cardiology department for decades, with experienced physicians performing both cardiothoracic and interventional cardiology procedures.

In this article, we present another successful medical case in the field of interventional cardiology.

A 60-year-old male patient was brought to the clinic by an ambulance team half an hour after experiencing severe chest pain.

Upon admission, the patient's condition was severe, with unstable hemodynamics (low blood pressure, low pulse) and complete atrioventricular block (bradycardia).

In the emergency department of our institution, after verifying the diagnosis of acute transmural infarction of the inferior wall of the myocardium, acute heart failure, and providing emergency medical care, the patient was immediately transferred under the supervision of a resuscitation team to the department of cardiovascular and resuscitation care, the laboratory of catheterization of major vessels for interventions (coronary angiography and coronary angioplasty).

During the cardiovascular examination, atherothrombosis of the right coronary artery with complete occlusion was detected, after which our clinic's interventional cardiologist Iva Kereselidze performed emergency vessel revascularization with stent implantation, resulting in restoration of vessel patency and complete restoration of blood circulation in the cardiac muscle. After the aforementioned intervention, the patient's condition stabilized, and he continued treatment in the cardiology department and was discharged from the healthcare facility a few days later without any complaints.

Coronary angiography and coronary intervention are minimally invasive procedures. During this manipulation, catheters-guides can be used to access the heart-feeding vessels, inspect them, and expand the damaged vessel by balloon angioplasty and stent implantation. The stent is a thin, flexible metallic framework that is inserted into the artery lumen in a compressed state and then expanded, acting like a spring.
